Hi Team Intrepid,
Ooooh, new look email! Well, slightly. We hope it’s a bit simpler and easier to read.
Headline news is that there are lots of gear testing opportunities up for grabs. Scroll to the bottom for more info.
And a little request from us: has Intrepid Magazine helped you in some way? Why is sharing women’s voices in the adventure space important? We’re applying to something (top secret) and would love to share your thoughts in it to, not just us saying why we’re doing this. If you have anything to share (even a sentence) please hit reply to this email.
Frankie Dewar is cycling across the UK interviewing women on her way “to show that you don’t have to do it whilst your young”. More info here.
It's National Get Outside Day this Sunday! Not that many of us need the encouragement. 😀
Mel Sykes is walking the West Highland Way. You can follow her journey through photos on Twitter.
Submissions are open for the Kendal Mountain Literature Festival on the theme of Space and Isolation. They are looking for submissions from groups that are under-represented in the outdoors. For more info on submissions and to get tickets head to their website.
On the theme of diversity and inclusion in the outdoors, check out this BBC interview with Mya-Rose Craig which discuss increasing diversity outdoors. In the first one she talks to Rhiane Fatinikun who founded Black Girls Hike. Fab and insightful! Thanks to Nikki @nikkicrowley1 for sharing on Twitter.
Anna McNuff's book Llama Drama has been shortlisted for the Kindle Storyteller award! If you've read it and liked it but haven't left a review yet head to the Amazon page.
The London Bike Kitchen is holding a "Bare Minimum Maintenance" workshop for £5 on Friday at 1pm. Great way to learn the basics and support a great group!
The Great British September Clean started on 11th September and 'ends' on 27th September. The first Intrepid Blog talked about sustainability and we got to interview Seonaid Lafferty the Sustainability Adviser for Kendal Mountain Festival (see everything is connected 😉)
And finally, check out We Swim Wild who are swimming 1000km across all of the U.K National Parks to collect water samples to test for microplastic pollution. They have already completed swims in Wales and Scotland! Check out their Twitter/Instagram @weswimwild and their website for more info and how to get involved.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try.” – Seth Godin
Whoop whoop! Our gear testing product pool has been updated! Ski mountaineering seems to be the theme (yes, debatable whether that’s test-able right now…) - if not, kit for the winter mountains. There are softshell salopettes, insulated jackets, rucksacks, gloves, trouser, hiking boots and more! Log into the members’ area and visit the Gear Testing page to sign up.
If you haven’t logged in since the new website happened, drop an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll get you sorted out.
And that’s all from us today. Have a lovely rest of your week… and stay intrepid!
