When is an Adventure a Failure?

Hi !

On Monday night I pitched up to watch the stars. Specifically the Persoid meteor shower.

It had been raining with gusto all day, so when the clouds began to clear, it was like a sign: go out there. So we went.

Tents pitched and camera equipment at the ready, we waited. It started to get dark, but at the same time a huge bank of cloud rolled in. By 10pm we couldn't see anything. Including the stars.

It would be easy to dismiss this as a failure. We didn't see any meteors. Other people's pictures on the internet look stunning.

But we did have a great night's camping and a surprise visit from friends. Is that a failure?

It might not be the intended outcome, but it's still good in it's own right.

Changing the direction of an adventure isn't a failure, it's smart. It's adapting to the situations thrown at you and making the best of it. :)

LAST CHANCE FOR ISSUE 5

Issue 5 is going to print on 24th August. To read it, in print or online, sign up here NOW. We don't print extra, so catch it now before it's too late.

On the subject of adaptation vs failure... I started this magazine 8 months ago and it still hasn't broken even. In some people's eyes, that's failure.

I'm working a full time job and paying for the magazine with my savings - nuts, right? Certainly not sustainable.

But I've just got this feeling we're doing something important. That getting more stories of adventurous women out there, we're changing the world - one person at a time.

If you're with us on this and want to help make the world more adventurous, please consider signing up for print or online versions and become part of Team Intrepid!
