Rosie Watson: Failing to run the length of the Pyrenees, via the Haute Route

failure pyrenees running Apr 11, 2019

May 2018; I was inside, revising, again. Attempting to cram another 100+ pages of notes, which I had only just caught up on yesterday, into my brain in less than 48 hrs, well enough that I could survive yet another final year exam. “It’s OK”, I told myself, “in a few weeks time you’ll be on a trip of a lifetime, for a whole month! It will be paradise!”.

The Haute Route is the highest and toughest of the trails which follow the Pyreneean mountains on...

Hannah Parry: How to adventure in London

My boots slipped and slid in the soft mud as I held out my arms for balance. The footpath rose steadily uphill in front of me with thick undergrowth on either side - white snow lay in patches where the now bright daylight had failed to reach. Navigating the edge of the pond led me to an ideal lunchtime bench where I unpacked my picnic with a...

"4 days 9 hours 43 minutes. It was awful, but it was amazing"

To top off her incredible year of racing, she and Damian Hall ran the Cape Wrath trail - 229 miles of unmarked rugged, remote Scottish terrain - to break the previous fastest known time (FKT) by 3 days! Jenny Tough: Running across the Bolivian Andes

In October 2018 Jenny Tough set off on ‘Part 3’ of her challenge of running across a mountain range in every continent, solo and unsupported. This time - the Bolivian Andes. 17 days, over 600km, and covering 3 or more mountain passes a day, often reaching 5000m altitude. Despite heading out in Bolivia’s ‘dry season’ she arrived to find that this hadn’t really happened this year - she faced at least one thunderstorm a day, lots of hail, rain and cold....
